Dry Skin on a Penis
Dry skin on a penis is a common problem for men, and many factors may be at play to cause it. The most sinister causes of dry skin on the penis are obviously yeast infections or STD's. For this reason, it is important that you don't take a risk by guessing yourself and visit your doctor as soon as possible for a proper diagnosis and course of treatment if necessary.
Other more harmless causes are basic skincare mistakes which over time can cause the delicate skin on the penis to dry. Dry skin on a penis is much more common amongst circumcised men, as the foreskin acts as a protective barrier against germs and also helps keep it moist. Once the foreskin is lost, the penis's natural protection is lost, however if you have being circumcised don't despair, we will now show you what you can do to help your penis skin become healthier and prevent it from drying in the future.
- When bathing, avoid using soap to clean your penis. Instead use only water, and only lukewarm water. Using hotter water and soap essentially wash away the protective oils of the penis skin and cause it to dry.
- Moisturising your penis will help keep the skin from drying. This is particularly important for men whom have been circumcised, as a circumcised penis is much more prone to drying. An alternative to traditional moisturising creams, milk is an excellent natural moisturiser which contains Vitamin A, amino acids and proteins which will really nourish the skin. If using milk, only use for around 5-10 minutes before rinsing off thoroughly.
- Evaluate your diet, and see if you are getting enough Vitamin A, B, C and sulphur. Foods such as onions and garlic and egg contain good amounts of sulphur which help to keep skin smooth and nourished.
Remember, you may be able to treat your dry skin problem by using the above methods, but this will do nothing for the underlying cause of the dry skin should it be an STD or yeast infection, and a trip to see your G.P. should still be the first port of call should you have even the slightest doubt about the cause of your dry penis skin. |
